<p><em>The R Word </em>is a thoughtful story of a white girl's self-discovery as she begins to think about race and race relations for the first time. Rachel Matrone has led a sheltered life unaware of the racial tensions that surround her. She knows her family loves her but maybe they love her too much. When Rachel steps out of her social comfort zone she realizes her world is not the fair just place she'd always assumed it to be. What will Rachel do with her new discoveries?
