The Reivers is a picaresque about three improbable automobile thieves from rural Mississippi and it is one of Faulkner's humorous classics. Boon Hogganbeck one of his family's retainers persuades eleven-year-old Lucius Priest to take his grandfather's automobile and go to Memphis. Ned McCaslin the Priests' black coachman stows away and the three of them embark on a heroic quest for which they are entirely unprepared culminating at Miss Reba's bordello in Memphis. A series of bizarre events occurs involving horse smugglers trainmen sheriff's deputies and incarceration
