The cumulative effect of the BrIt'sh expansionist policies Economic exploitation and administrative innovations over the years had adversely affected the position of all rulers of Indian States Sepoys Zamindars Peasants Traders Pundits and Maulvies etc. The simmering discontent exploded into a violent Revolt in 1857 which shook the BrIt'sh Empire in India to its every foundation. It changed the character of BrIt'sh rule marking the end of the rule of East India Company and bringing the BrIt'sh India directly under the control of BrIt'sh Crown.
