This novel starts off as another retelling of the war in Heaven that led to Satan and the fallen angels to be thrown out of Heaven. One of these fallen angels is the guardian angel of Maurice named Arcade. Arcade gets bored with Maurice's continuous adulteries and starts to read theology books from a famous library. Once Arcade reads through all the books he realizes that the story has been told all wrong. Arcade tells Maurice that God is really an evil god called a demiurge by the name of Ialdabaoth. Arcade then goes on an adventure around France in order to collect an army of fallen angels to attempt to overthrown Ialdabaoth and regain control of the heavens. Arcade attempts to recruit Lucifer himself to lead the army. Lucifer needs to think about leading the army and has a dream that will determine the future of Heaven and Earth itself.

While this story is intriguing it does reintroduce the ideas of Gnosticism from the first few centuries after Christ. There have been many writings that have disproven Gnosticism as legitimate yet the temptation of Gnosticism continues in today's culture. The idea of God being evil is too alluring for many people and so novels like this give this people an outlet to reimagine the universe in a different way. What this novel also reveals is that Gnosticism is still an enemy to the global church and one that is at this time winning the spiritual war many churches are negligent about the influence of Gnosticism in their churches and in their teaching that they will completely disregard the hypocrisy in their beliefs about theology and their place in this world.
