The story follows Veronica Labrador from her high school on Long Island New York and then skipping forward twenty-three years. Her life has not brought her love as she believes it to be... that emotional tugging at her heart...that profound tearing away of all pretenses and barriers to her soul. Two years before we catch up with Veronica and the single scene in Manhattan the book depicts a murder of passion in Cape Cod Massachusetts. Although the mystery of the murder looms in the background the story is about relationships. It is not without sexual overtones but that too is just the backdrop for the love story. As the protagonist Veronica is strong unyielding and vulnerable. They are all of her strengths.
