This work is the result of doctoral research conducted at the PCM - Graduate Program in Science and Mathematics Education at the State University of Maringá - Brazil which sought to investigate the role of images in physics teaching considering Allan Paivio's Dual Coding Theory. It presents and discusses situations that show how images can expand the possibilities for retrieving information concepts and knowledge discussed during physics classes highlighting how dual coding (words and images) is processed by human cognition and memory.
