The Role of Path Dependence in Economic Integration

A certain number of historical accidents (or path dependence) indeed contributed to the intra-industry trade structure of Turkey with the European countries. Among these “accidents” the statist economic policies played a crucial role. The effect of the statist policies on trade structure of Turkey with the EU is the subject of this book. In fact these economic policies allowed the harmonization of the structures of the products exchanged between Turkey and the EU members and led Turkish industry to specialization in the groups of products similar to those of industries of the EU.
