The role of school senior managers in eradicating school violence

About The Book

Violence directed at children ultimately leads to poor achievement at schools and later on in life. Educators in their ''in loco parentis'' capacity and as per educators'' duty of care principle are obliged to create a school environment that is free from all forms of violence. This book therefore provides an insight on the role played by school senior managers in mitigating violence in high schools. It evaluates how school management teams perceive their roles in managing school violence; elucidate and describe the different forms of school violence and their causes; and do an appraisal of the laws that exist to safeguard learners. The findings are based on a thesis where data was collected from a principal deputy principal and senior teacher in three schools selected purposively from Swaziland and their responses qualitatively evaluated. The results indicated that school senior managers are overwhelmed with the different types of violence directed at learners and depicted the unavailability of a systematic approach to eradicate the violence. Through the analysis of the findings an attempt was made to suggest how some violence would be eradicated.
