The Second Jungle Book

The book consists of eight stories some of which are connected to one another while others can be read independently. The central character throughout the stories is Mowgli a young boy raised by wolves in the jungle. Mowgli is joined by other familiar characters from The Jungle Book such as Baloo the bear and Bagheera the panther. In The Second Jungle Book Kipling delves deeper into Mowglis adventures and further explores the themes of friendship loyalty and survival. The stories also touch upon human and animal relationships and the contrast between civilization and the wild. Some notable stories in the collection include How Fear Came which explains the origin of fear among animals The Kings Ankus where Mowgli uncovers a hidden treasure and Red Dog in which Mowgli encounters a band of dhole (wild dogs) and their charismatic leader.
