The Secret Garden

About The Book

The Secret Garden tells the story of Mary Lennox a spoiled and neglected girl who is sent to live with her reclusive uncle Archibald Craven at Misselthwaite Manor after the death of her parents. Initially cold and unhappy Mary discovers a hidden locked garden on the estate. With the help of a kind servant Martha and Martha’s nature-loving brother Dickon Mary begins to restore the garden. As she nurtures the garden back to life her own character transforms—she becomes kinder healthier and more joyful. Mary also discovers her cousin Colin a bedridden and lonely boy who believes he is too ill to live. Mary introduces Colin to the secret garden and together with Dickon they spend time outdoors which brings remarkable changes to Colin’s health and spirit. The story illustrates themes of healing friendship and the power of nature as both the garden and the characters flourish. By the end Colin reunites with his father Archibald bringing hope and renewal to the family. The Secret Garden is a timeless tale of transformation resilience and the beauty of growth.
