The She King

The She King also known as The Book of Ancient Poetry is a translation of a collection of Chinese poems and songs dating back to the Zhou dynasty (1046-256 BCE). The book was translated by James Legge and first published in 1876. The poems cover a range of topics including love war nature and daily life. The collection is divided into four parts: the Airs of the States the Lesser Eulogies the Greater Eulogies and the Hymns and Odes of the Temple and Altar. Legge's translation includes annotations and explanations to help readers understand the cultural and historical context of the poems.
