The Silver Shield: An Original Comedy in Three Acts

The story of The Silver Shield is set in a fictional society and revolves around a young man named Sir Philip Leigh who is a knight seeking to prove his courage and worth. He becomes entangled in a series of misunderstandings when he comes into possession of a mysterious silver shield which according to local legend is said to bring both great honor and great misfortune to its holder. The shield itself becomes a symbol of Sir Philip’s status as well as a catalyst for the comedic events that unfold. The romantic subplot centers on Sir Philip's affection for Lady Angela a beautiful but strong-willed woman who has little patience for traditional courtship. Sir Philip in an attempt to impress her attempts to use the shield as a symbol of his bravery and nobility but his actions and his desire to live up to the expectations of the shield lead to numerous humorous situations. Alongside this there are other characters such as an eccentric servant and a meddling old family friend who complicate the plot with their own schemes and misunderstandings.
