This book presents the results of a study conducted on the solution for the cobalt circuit at hydrometallurgical structural plants. Prior to double electrolytic decoating. The objective is to remove copper from the solution by a new approach i.e. case hardening using iron chips as opposed to the usual technique of using lime and to see to what extent the co-precipitation of cobalt can be minimized. As mentioned above the methodology involved a case hardening test conducted under two different conditions. Firstly in a non-agitated environment and secondly in an agitated environment. In both cases the time observed is the same i.e. 2 hours as the mass of the iron chips varies as follows: 10.6g 13.6g 16.6g 19.6g..6g 21.6g and 23.6gThe sample taken into account is a solution taken from tank 12 R1 before the double decoppering and has the following characteristics: 0.26g/l copper 1.15g/l cobalt 0.36g/l manganese and 37.24g/l acidity.from the results obtained we can deduce the best performance in the agitated environment i.e. a copper carburization yield of 92.307%.
