<p><i>The Spanish American Reader</i> is designed to furnish the student with a variety of interesting reading matter which will illustrate the life manners customs and achievements of the Spanish-speaking countries of America and at the same time afford abundant material for acquiring a vocabulary.</p><p>The book is intended for use in the second year of Spanish or in the latter half of the first year if the student has made rapid progress. The selections are varied in character and embrace descriptive and historical sketches short stories anecdotes poems and extracts from plays.</p><p>The vocabulary is intended to contain all the words and idioms used in the text except the most common ones.
