Alexander III of Macedon (July 356 BC - June 323 BC) commonly known as Alexander the Great was a king from the Greek kingdom of Macedon. He succeeded his father Philip II to the throne when but 20 years old. He spent most of his ruling years on an unprecedented military campaign that took him across western Asia and northeast Africa. By 30 he had formed one of the largest empires of the ancient world stretching from Greece to northwestern India. He was never defeated in battle and is viewed as one of the most successful military commanders of all time. This translation of an ancient Greek story recounts Alexander's exploits as he marched Westward.
