The Story of the Pigs

“The Story of the Pigs” is the second of three books in the third series of the CAMathories™ Folktale Mathematics™ curriculum (Record recognize and estimate 0 – 5) for 3-4 years old. It is an African American folktale. It tells the tale of five piglets leaving home to make their own way in the world who must stay safe from Brer Wolf. Children will learn to con?dently group items from one to ?ve in this story.Most African Americans came to the United States from the continent of Africa. A continent is a large body of land that has lots of countries inside of it. Africa is the second largest of the seven continents around the world. In early African villages you would find musicians artists and storytellers alongside warriors and farmers. The warriors kept the village safe and the farmers grew vegetables and fruits like yams peppers corn bananas pineapples and much more. Early African Americans arrived in the United States with only their memories. So they tried to re-create what mattered most to themfrom their homeland. For example they brought their rhythmic and soulful which means deeply heartfelt music. Also they brought their delicious food some of which you’ll learn about today. And they brought their imaginative storytelling. Some of the most popular African American folk tales were collected in a book and re-told by a character named “Uncle Remus.” The Story of the Pigs is from this very large collection.
