The Sword of the King

The novel follows the adventures of a young nobleman Sir Julian Challoner who becomes embroiled in the political and military strife surrounding King Charles I and his conflict with Parliament. As a loyal supporter of the monarchy Sir Julian is drawn into various dangerous situations where his honor bravery and allegiance to the king are tested. The Sword of the King refers both to a symbolic representation of loyalty to the crown and to an actual sword that plays a central role in the story. Sir Julian's mission is to protect this sword which is believed to have great political and symbolic power in rallying royalist support. Throughout the novel the sword becomes an object of desire for both royalists and Parliamentarians and its possession is key to the unfolding conflict.
