Charles Dickens (1812-1870) was an English novelist and social critic. All his novels focus on the major social issues in Victorian England. A Tale of Two Cities is set in the backdrop of the French Revolution. Dr. Manette returns to his daughter Lucie in London after years of captivity in Paris. There he comes across two men who are in love with Lucie. Through a series of circumstances they are all drawn to Paris where the Reign of Terror still rages.
