Shakespeare's play The Taming of the Shrew is about love and marriage. The reason Lucentio marries Bianca is because he has an unrealistic love for a seemingly perfect woman. The courtship of Katherine by Petruchio however is devoid of romanticism. Given that Katherine must get married before her sister per her father's will Petruchio uses money from Bianca's suitors to win her over. He also works with her father to set up the dowry. When Katherine no longer wants to get married Petruchio is prepared to do so.The title character's shrew Katherine surely behaves very differently now.
