From working on roofs where the pitch would blind and fill the lungs with sulphur crawling under houses smelling the booze of the man next to him or the exhilaration he felt as he covered steeples high above the city; it is the story of a lad as he grows to become a man in the sheet metal business. Its the tale of the tinners who drank hard chased women did grueling work but had compassion kindness and wisdom. The Tinsmiths Son brings to life the rancorous shenanigans of these men and the people of the street. The high-steppers and the down-and-outers who suffered through the depression but kept their dignity. From those bittersweet times emerges the story of a boy and girl as they fell in love and the way that love shaped their lives. Through the eyes of these youngsters passes on to the the reader all the passion curiosity and joy as they grew together. Werner brings to life the sadness and anquish of a wife as she deals with the loss of newborn babies and her grit and determination to have a healthy child. Its a wonderful book of dreams and how those dreams really did come true.
