<p><strong>A collected volume of H. Rider Haggard's Allan Quatermain adventures presenting some of the earliest and most influential works of modern adventure fiction.</strong></p><p>Before the emergence of later adventure figures H. Rider Haggard's Allan Quatermain established the model of the explorer-adventurer: a figure moving through unfamiliar territories in pursuit of knowledge survival and at times treasure. First published in the late nineteenth century these works combine elements of travel narrative romance and speculative adventure set largely within the landscapes of southern Africa and shaped by the conventions and assumptions of their period.</p><p>This volume gathers a substantial portion of the Quatermain sequence including <em>King Solomon's Mines</em> <em>Allan Quatermain</em> <em>Allan's Wife</em> <em>Maiwa's Revenge; or The War of the Little Hand</em> <em>Marie</em> and <em>Child of Storm</em>. Taken together these narratives establish the thematic and structural foundations of the adventure genre influencing later writers and the development of twentieth-century popular fiction.
