The True Christian Religion

The True Christian Religion is structured in three main parts: The Doctrine of the Lord: This part discusses Swedenborg's unique understanding of the nature of God particularly the doctrine of the Trinity as understood within the New Church. Swedenborg asserts that God is one in essence and person and that the Father Son (Jesus Christ) and Holy Spirit are not separate persons but different aspects of the one God. The Doctrine of the Sacred Scripture: In this part Swedenborg presents his approach to understanding the Bible emphasizing the idea of the inner spiritual meaning contained within the literal text. He introduces the concept of correspondences which suggests that there is a symbolic and spiritual significance to the stories and teachings in the Bible. The Doctrine of Life: This part provides guidance on how to live a life in accordance with spiritual principles. Swedenborg discusses the importance of love and charity the role of free will and the process of spiritual transformation and regeneration.
