Fate plays strange tricks upon a young family in pre- and post-independent India. Family ties begin to feel the strain when the father is sent to prison for being a freedom fighter in a party that uses violence as a means. When he is finally released and returns to his family he is a changed man. This story highlights how ordinary people react to change and how they cope.
