The UNHCR and WFP's contribution to humanitarian aid

About The Book

The aim of this book is to assess the contribution made by the UNHCR and the WFP in providing humanitarian aid to Central African refugees in the Logone Oriental region of southern Chad and its impact on the lives of the refugees. The Central African refugees based in southern Chad suffer from basic social problems such as insecurity malnutrition undernourishment health education access to drinking water and sexual and gender-based violence. All these problems constitute a major threat to the refugees'' survival. Based on this work we seek to go beyond the instruments and causes that underpin the action of the UNHCR and the WFP on behalf of refugees to show how the two organisations proceed to protect refugees and ensure food security in refugee camps. Our analysis shows that the actions of the UNHCR and the WFP in the Goré camps have made a considerable contribution to guaranteeing basic rights in terms of protection and alleviating famine and malnutrition but that more needs to be done to ensure that humanitarian aid is part of a new dynamic in which human dignity prevails.
