The United States of South Asia

<p>This paper explores the prospects for regional unification in South Asia along the lines of the European Union. It traces the evolution of the idea of South Asian regional cooperation with special emphasis on the possibilities of expanding the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) beyond economic cooperation to include political cooperation and possible regional integration. The paper reviews the issues that affect South Asian unity and considers the applicability of multi-track diplomacy current developments in conflict resolution and bases for confidence building in order to identify political and cultural prospects that would foster or hinder formation of such a union.</p><p>This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
