The book is a collection of short stories and proses which reproduce the common life of the poor and small people who struggled in hutong and multi-family courtyards in Beijing during the 1950's. It provides vivid descriptions about the violence and torture in the cultural revolution. These stories reflect the hard feelings sympathy as well as nostalgia of the author. The readers will find themselves crossing both space and time and landed at a strange coordinate system. For the generation born after 1940 in China all of them had ever fallen into a big turmoil and a series of political movements. Therefore they do have plenty impressive stories. However due to the mass surveillance most of their stories are difficult to be published in China. Hence the book is named The Untold Stories.
