The use of WHOQOL- Quality of life in individuals with schizophrenia

Investigating the quality of life of patients with schizophrenia can help to understand the impact that this illness has on individuals and assist in the planning of public policies in mental health thus ensuring an improvement in the quality of care. The aim of this study was to collect data on the use of the WHOQOL as a quality of life assessment tool for individuals with schizophrenia by searching the PubMed and ScieLO databases. Eleven (11) articles were found with studies on schizophrenia and QOL measured using the WHOQOL scale. The WHOQOL has been used in eight (8) countries to assess the quality of life of schizophrenics. Their quality of life is considered an important component of effective treatment. It has been shown that psychosocial interventions aimed at developing personal skills in the cognitive emotional social and psychomotor domains are fundamental to quality of life as schizophrenia is an uncertain disease in its evolution varying from person to person.
