This is the story of a thirteen year old boy who lied about his age in April 1861 and joined Adams Rifles a company of volunteers from Handsboro Mississippi. The unit became Company E of the 20th Mississippi Infantry. The boy Marion Francis Baxter soon found himself in action in Western Virginia and somewhat later was taken prisoner at Fort Donelson Kentucky. After his exchange at Vicksburg in September of 1862 he was in constant combat as the Federals pushed the Confederates on back to Georgia. This narrative presents his unique story.
