The Way of the Cross in Woodcuts

The Way of the Cross began as an ancient devotion-stops along the Via Dolorosa to reflect upon the Passion of Christ. By the Middle Ages fourteen stations had emerged grounded in scriptural passages as well as legend. In the wake of Vatican II the Biblical way of the Cross was developed rooted entirely in the Gospels of the New Testament.
