The Weary Blues

The Weary Blues Langston Hughes's first book of poems was hailed as a masterpiece when it was originally published. It is still a highly regarded literary work that delivers a vivid portrayal of the Black experience more than 90 years after it was first published. It also still conjures a vibrant modern mood. From The Weary Blues the poem's title which echoes blues music to the joyous Dream Variation to the epilogue which quotes Walt Whitman and begins I too sing America Hughes writes with clarity and colour and his words are still prophetic and timely today.
