It follows the life and romantic pursuits of the protagonist Jocelyn Pierston an artist who becomes infatuated with a series of three women who share a striking physical resemblance. These women are all named Avice and Pierston's obsession with them spans generations as he becomes enamored with each successive generation of Avice.The Well-Beloved delves into the idea of idealized or unattainable love and explores the complexities of human desire and relationships. It also examines the passage of time and how people change over the years as well as the idea of destiny and fate.The novel is known for its unique narrative structure and style with a focus on character development and introspection.
