<p><strong>The Wings of the Dove</strong> by Henry James (1902) is a psychological novel about love wealth and moral conflict.</p><p>The story follows <strong>Kate Croy</strong> a young woman torn between her love for journalist <strong>Merton Densher</strong> and the pressure from her wealthy manipulative aunt to marry into money. When Kate befriends <strong>Milly Theale</strong> a rich American heiress who is terminally ill she secretly schemes for Milly to fall in love with Densher-hoping that after Milly's death Densher will inherit her fortune and then be free to marry Kate.</p><p>The plan works to an extent: Milly does love Densher but she also realizes the truth of their motives. After Milly's death she leaves her wealth to Densher who is overcome with guilt. In the end he rejects the inheritance and confronts Kate forcing both to face the corruption of their love.</p><p>The novel explores themes of morality sacrifice self-deception and the price of love entangled with ambition.</p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p>
