The Wood Beyond the World

William Morris the author of The Wood Beyond the Earth which was first published in 1894 is frequently cited as one of the writers who contributed to the development of science fiction fantasy and utopian literature. William Morris is one of C.S. Lewis' favourite writers and J.R.R. Tolkein acknowledges that Morris' fantasies had a significant influence on his writing. Golden Walter the protagonist of this love story is the son of Bartholomew Golden a prominent businessman in Langton on Holm. Walter embarks on a maritime expedition because he is bored with his boring life and is eager to see and learn more about the outside world. He ends up conquering Stark-Wall and gaining the heart of a stunning young woman.
