Thomas Carlyle (1795-1881) was one of the most influential authors of the nineteenth century. His introduction of German literature and philosophy into Victorian society profoundly influenced later ideas. Volume 24 of this 1896 edition of his collected works contains the second volume of his translation of Goethe''s Wilhelm Meister.
