The Book of Judges in the World English Bible (WEB) is the seventh book of the Old Testament and covers the period after Joshua''s death when Israel was ruled by a series of leaders known as judges. The book spans several centuries during which the Israelites frequently fall into cycles of sin oppression repentance and deliverance. The narrative begins with the Israelites settling in the Promised Land but failing to fully drive out the native Canaanites which leads them into periods of disobedience to God. As they turn to idolatry and forsake God''s commandments they are frequently oppressed by neighboring enemies. In response to their repentance God raises up judges—military and spiritual leaders—who deliver the Israelites from their oppressors.
