The World's Constitutions & the Wage Gap

About The Book

The study offered in these pages is intended as a contribution to knowledge about the wage gap between men and women its relationship with current legislation and its respective application in today''s reality. The subject has had a long history of analysis and work in the United Nations and various international organizations such as the European Union and the International Labor Organization as well as at the national level. The progress made thanks to these initiatives has been important in promoting wage equality and putting an end to some forms of discrimination that are still in force. However it is necessary to continue to promote the equal value of work for men and women beyond the legislation in force. The new Article 14 of the Argentine Constitution has already incorporated the right to equal pay for equal work although this guarantee existed implicitly in the initial text of the national Constitution in the declaration of equality before the law as a way of achieving equality of opportunity and treatment.
