Introduction: from television to young people or from young people to television? Like all arduous work the text that begins here is a long journey. The first words of this paper are devoted to reviewing this drift from what was an initial concern a spark that with time and reflection would give rise to the writing that follows. In general terms the question that governs the work is the following: how does television construct meanings about youth? The path that led to this question has certainly not been a straight line. Initially the thesis was intended to focus on a particular type of representation of youth in the mass media namely that of the young delinquent.
