About The Book

The Islamization of Pakistan gave birth to the requirement of aligning the criminal laws of the country with classical Shariah. This ultimately led to the promulgation of the Hudood Ordinances of Pakistan. The Offence of Zina (Enforcement of Hudood) Ordinance (VII of 1979) was one of these five ordinances which led to substantial criticism as it gave birth to controversial laws. The Zina Ordinance was seen to violate human rights proved to be sexist and unforgiving especially towards woman. This article deliberates on the question whether the legislation stayed within the limits of Shariah law or abused its status and purpose.
