Themes in Kangri Love Songs

Themes in Kangri Love Songs: A Literary Perspective is an attempt to reveal the literary relevance of Kangri love songs which people have been singing across the valley of Kangra since the time immemorial and people are still singing these songs as a significant part of their tradition and culture. People of Kangra Valley were already aware of their rich culture and tradition and hence the tradition of these love songs continued to represent their culture without any impact of time and space. This is the reason they preserved their rich tradition of singing of love songs. This book is also an attempt to understand the themes in Kangri love songs in comparison and in relation to various traditions of love songs or poetry existing throughout the globe in well-established literary forms. This book would have been an impossible endeavor had I not been born in a Kangri community where I lived and understood the ways how culture traverses from one generation to other without any deliberate attempt. The selection of love songs is important for these songs are sung everywhere in Kangra but no attempt was ever made to understand them.
