About The Book

Plasticized polymers have been widely used in medicine which has greatly expanded the possibilities in the treatment of diseases. Necessary requirements to the polymeric material are its non-toxicity biocompatibility and ability to withstand sterilization. Acrylic copolymers in particular meet these requirements. However an individual selection of materials is required in each individual case. Their physico-chemical and thermodynamic characteristics play an important role the study of which allows to optimize the composition of the polymer system. Promising polymeric compositions for medicine are transdermal therapeutic systems (TTS) capable of delivering drugs to a given target organ. TTS are prolonged do not cause pain shock and the drugs are not destroyed in the gastrointestinal tract. The monograph presents the results of a study of the physico-chemical characteristics of plasticized copolymers of butyl methacrylate with methacrylic acid and the construction of FCS based on them. The monograph will be useful for specialists in the field of physical chemistry and thermodynamics of plasticized polymers and copolymers.
