This paper consisted in highlighting the realities of African democracy and the syndrome of the third mandate which affects most of its states. To support our analyzes a study was carried out on a sample of 22 countries which served as an analytical framework. The achievement of our objectives was made possible by the use of binary Logit linear model estimation methods. After estimation it has been shown that the low level of democracy (lack of alternation between leaders) in the political parties of the countries concerned would positively explain the attempt to run for a third term. However we point out that the difficulties encountered in measuring certain qualitative variables led to the rejection of other elements that could well explain the third term in the continent alongside the variable retained.
