In 1926 Seattle Police Patrolman S. J. Jorgensen was a nationally-known pistol champ and Jiu-Jitsu instructor. In 1938 he published Thirty-Six Secret Knock-Out Blows without the use of Fists which is partially based on the Danzan Ry? style of Ju Jitsu founded by Seishiro Okazaki. The booklet is filled with images showing knock-outs headlock breaks and other self-defense techniques. Svend Jens Jorgy Jorgensen (1890-1974) was born in Denmark and came to Seattle in 1910. He joined the SPD in 1919 and began learning Jiu-Jitsu and Judo in 1921 when three fellow police officers untrained in disarming techniques were killed by a gunman. Mr. Jorgensen retired from the SPD in 1951 then worked a further eight years as a King County deputy sheriff. Although he held 127 sharpshooting medals Mr. Jorgensen was proud of having arrested more than 200 criminals without ever firing a shot.
