<p>Ninna Saanum 22 years old sailed around the globe in 1913-1914 on the Norwegian full-rigged ship Svaland with her father the captain. Her journal and photographs and his logbook tell the story of surviving a terrible North Sea storm crossing the Pacific and returning up the Atlantic not knowing that World War I had started and that the ocean was a war zone.  This is for readers seeking writing by women at sea maritime and naval history and accounts of the end of the age of sail.</p>
