In the book the famous battle of defending Changde is depicted directly. The 57th Division of the 74th Army codenamed Tiger Ben fought fiercely for more than ten days in the encirclement of more than 60000 Japanese soldiers and fought bloody battles against the Japanese invaders to defend Changde. With a total of over 8000 soldiers only 83 survived.
