Tinospora cordifolia is referred as Amrita in the Ayurved and used as Tridosh shamak. There is a search for such medicines that can protect normal tissues selectively against harmful effect of radiation leaving the malignant ones. Tinospora cordifolia potential as a radioprotector against Co 60 gamma radiation was tested in the present study. Antineoplastic and anti tumor activities of Tinospora cordifolia potentiates its applicability in protection of normal tissues versus malignant ones. It is interesting that this plant is found to be protective at a very low dose 5mg/kg body weight even that can be reduced to a very low dose if extrapolated for the human beings.
