To Each His Own

In To Each His Own the story is set in a future society where personal preferences and desires have become highly individualized often to extreme levels. The protagonist lives in a world where technology has made it possible for every person to experience their ideal reality. People are able to customize their surroundings environments and even relationships creating a world perfectly tailored to their tastes. However this extreme individualization comes at a cost: the inability to connect meaningfully with others. As each person exists in their own personal bubble of perfection they become isolated from the rest of humanity. The protagonist while initially enjoying the benefits of this customized world begins to feel the loneliness and emptiness that comes with living in a reality devoid of genuine human interaction.
