Rapid expansion of tobacco use has become a matter of serious concern owing to huge burden of diseases. This study is based on the nationally representative data from Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) 2009-2010 India. With the intent to provide an insight into the pattern of tobacco use and cessation behaviour among adults (aged 15 years and above) in India this book is divided in six parts. First part sheds some light on the background and builds up the rationale of the study. Second segment articulates the pattern of tobacco use on the grounds of selected socio-demographic characteristics. Third portion enunciates the differentials in interest to quit tobacco among current tobacco users. Fourth part portrays the differentials in duration of quit attempts and cessation methods used by current tobacco users. Fifth section explicates the duration of cessation use of cessation methods and hazard of quitting tobacco among former tobacco users. The last sector elucidates the discussion and conclusion of the present study and gives a brief account of existing policies and programs to curb tobacco epidemic in India and lastly confers some recommendations to curtail the situation.
