<p>Ugochukwu has just won the Humboldt scholarship; a rare chance to teach and research in Germany and to give his family the better life he's always dreamed of. In 1993/94 Mainz almost fifty years after the Second World War the country was still healing with silences heavy with memory. When his pregnant wife Ifeoma arrives with their young son the joy of reunion slowly gives way to unease.</p><p>Germany is colder than they expected; not just the weather but the looks the distance the feeling of never quite belonging.
