Toward Sound

This study examines three styles of textural music --phonography noise and free improvisation -- musicwhich is based upon the layering of spectrally densefabrics of sound often improvised and performedlive in front of an audience. In particular Idiscuss the American Northeast Corridor subculturesand communities that host these scenes by describingsome of my own experiences as well as those ofimportant artists who work within these realms ofsound. Through these investigations I demonstrate theimportance of these points of view within the largermusical discourse.
