Traditional Healers' Views on the Role of Zulu medicine on Psychosis

About The Book

The focus of this research project was on the views that Zulu traditional healers and caregivers hold on the role of traditional Zulu medicine on psychosis (ukuhlanya). The findings of this research provide evidence that Traditional Zulu healers and a few community members (caregivers of those who once presented with the symptoms of ukuhlanya) view psychosis as a curable illness that is usually caused by bewitchment. Participants distinguished this illness from the symptoms of someone who has a calling to become a traditional healer. Get an idea into how psychosis is conceptualized in the Zulu context.
